Seitseminen National Park (Finland)

Weather…

Seitseminen National Park is located in the Pirkanmaa region of southwestern Finland and was established in 1982 to preserve the last contiguous old-growth forests in the area. The protected territory covers about 45 square kilometers and represents a mosaic of ancient forests, raised bogs, and lakes. Of particular significance is the Multiharju forest area, home to pines and spruces over 400 years old that bear distinct marks of historical forest fires. The geography is shaped by glacial eskers and shallow depressions that favored the formation of numerous small mires. Culturally, the Kovero heritage farm is a highlight, being a former forest worker's residence from the early 20th century that now serves as a living museum of traditional Finnish agriculture. The park's fauna is diverse, including the European pine marten and the black woodpecker, which thrive in the abundance of dead wood. For visitors, the park provides a well-maintained network of trails spanning approximately 60 kilometers, featuring both educational nature paths and more demanding hiking routes. The ecosystem also serves as a reference site for research into natural forest regeneration in Northern Europe.
