Sääksjärvi in the Nurmijärvi municipality is famous for its vast sandy beach and exceptionally clean water. It is one of Finland's largest spring-fed lakes, meaning the water is filtered through the sandy soil, giving it a beautiful turquoise hue in places. The shallow shores make Sääksjärvi beach a good destination for families with small children. Located only about 45 minutes north of Helsinki, it is a favorite summer day-trip spot for locals. Besides swimming, the area features wonderful hiking trails through pine forests on the surrounding ridges. There are cafes, changing rooms, and beach volleyball courts available at the main beach area. The best time to visit is from June to August, when the water temperature becomes comfortable and the long Finnish summer days are at their peak.
