Kiiminki Church (Finland)

Weather…

Kiiminki Church, completed in 1760, is one of the oldest and most precious wooden churches in the Northern Ostrobothnia region. It was built under the direction of the famous master builder Matti Honka, who was renowned for his expertise in constructing cruciform churches. The building is characterized by traditional Ostrobothnian architecture, with harmonious proportions and skilled timber craftsmanship. Of particular value are the interior paintings from the late 18th century, which depict biblical themes through an animated folk art tradition. Remarkably, the church has survived several wars and fires over the centuries, making it a rare original witness to Finnish sacral architecture from the Baroque era. The separate bell tower, also built using traditional techniques, completes the historical ensemble. Today, the church is a favorite destination for architecture enthusiasts and continues to serve as the spiritual heart of the community in the rapidly growing area near Oulu.
