Kerimäki Church (Finland)

Weather…

Kerimäki Church is world-renowned as the largest wooden church in the world and serves as a monumental testament to mid-19th-century Finnish architecture. This impressive structure was built between 1844 and 1847 based on the designs of architect Anders Granstedt. The church measures 45 meters in length, 42 meters in width, and reaches a height of 27 meters at its central dome. With a seating capacity of approximately 3,000 (and a total capacity for up to 5,000 people), it was constructed for a parish that had only about 10,000 members at the time. Because the church has no heating, winter services are held in a smaller winter church on the same grounds. The bright, spacious interior is illuminated by numerous windows and is famous for its exceptional acoustics, making the church a significant venue for music festivals, such as the Savonlinna Opera Festival. Today, the wooden cruciform structure is a protected national heritage site, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the world each year.
