Iitti Old Church is one of Finland’s most beautiful wooden cruciform churches and a premier example of 17th-century Baroque architecture. Completed in 1693, the church underwent significant modifications in the mid-18th century under the guidance of master builder Matts Åkergren. It is prominently situated on a hill overlooking Lake Kirkkojärvi, creating an impressive visual impact within the surrounding countryside. The separate bell tower, added in 1830, was designed by the famous architect Carl Ludvig Engel and is considered a masterpiece of its kind.
