Vahi-Mägi (Estonia)

Weather…

Vahi-Mägi is a prominent elevation in the hilly landscape of the Otepää Upland in southern Estonia. Like many hills in this region, it is a legacy of the last ice age, composed of glacial till, primarily sand and gravel. The Otepää Upland is renowned for its mosaic relief, where hummocks, hollows, and small lakes alternate within a short distance. Vahi-Mägi, due to its location, provides a good overview of the surrounding moraine hills and forest patches. The slopes are often forested, dominated by spruce and pine, while flatter areas are sometimes used for agriculture. The region has a long history of settlement reaching back to the Iron Age, and the hill is part of an area now heavily characterized by nature tourism. Geomorphologically, Vahi-Mägi is an example of a kame formation, created by deposits accumulating in glacial crevasses as the ice melted.
