Lepa-Mägi, whose name means Alder Hill, is a prominent elevation in the Otepää Upland, characterized by its dense forests and steep slopes. Geologically, the hill is a classic terminal moraine consisting of a complex layering of sand, gravel, and clay deposited during the gradual retreat of the ice sheet. Today, vegetation is dominated by mixed forests, while the eponymous alder (Lepa) is primarily found in the wetter depressions at the foot of the hill. Lepa-Mägi is an important component of the regional biotope network and provides refuge for protected plant species such as the Baltic orchid. The hill's relief is dissected by small gullies and erosion channels shaped by rainwater runoff over centuries. Historically, the area was an important site for local timber production and is now increasingly being developed for ecotourism. In clear weather, the summit gives a wide view over the Otepää lake district, illustrating the geomorphological diversity of southern Estonia. Soil conditions vary greatly between the sunny southern slopes and the shady, more humid northern sides.
