Qasr el-Nil Bridge (Egypt)

Weather…

The Qasr el-Nil Bridge is the most iconic Nile crossing in central Cairo, linking Tahrir Square with the upscale district of Gezira. The current steel structure was completed in 1933, replacing the original bridge inaugurated in 1872 under Khedive Ismail Pasha, which was the first permanent bridge across the Nile in Cairo. The bridge's most recognizable features are the four majestic bronze lions guarding both entrances, sculpted by the French artist Henri Alfred Jacquemart. Spanning 382 meters in length, the bridge serves as a vital artery for the city's traffic and a popular promenade for locals and tourists, especially during sunset. It holds significant cultural and historical weight, most recently serving as a focal point during the 2011 Egyptian Revolution demonstrations.
