Port of Manzanillo (Dominican Republic)

Weather…

The Port of Manzanillo, located in the Bay of Manzanillo in Monte Cristi province, is the deepest natural port in the Dominican Republic. It was developed in the mid-20th century by the Grenada Company, a subsidiary of the United Fruit Company, for the large-scale export of bananas. Its exceptional depth of up to 25 meters allows even the largest container ships and bulk carriers to dock without extensive dredging operations. Today, the port is a strategic element of the national logistics plan, offering the shortest maritime route to markets on the U.S. East Coast. Besides bananas, energy products and construction materials are also handled here. The government has initiated extensive modernization plans to expand the port into a regional logistics hub, which is expected to massively promote the economic development of the country's underdeveloped northwest.
