Fort des Trois Baies (Haiti)

Weather…

Fort des Trois Baies is a historic defensive fortification located near Fort-Liberté in northeastern Haiti. It was constructed in the 18th century by the French to protect the region's three strategically important bays from maritime incursions. The fortress is characterized by its star-shaped ground plan, which was typical of European military architecture of that era. Due to its elevated position, the fort could monitor and coordinate all maritime traffic in the surrounding waters. During the Napoleonic Wars, it was a contested post between French troops and insurgent Haitian forces. Despite centuries of weathering, many of the thick walls and casemates have remained remarkably well-preserved. The complex is a significant example of colonial fortification art in the Caribbean and now attracts visitors interested in military history. The view of the Fort-Liberté bay from this vantage point is particularly impressive.
