Bassin Zim is one of Haiti's most impressive hidden gems, featuring a majestic waterfall that plunges into a deep blue natural pool. The site is cherished not only for its natural beauty but also for its caves containing pre-Columbian petroglyphs left by the Taino Indians. Visitors come here to bathe in the refreshing waters and experience the spiritual atmosphere of the grottoes. The surroundings offer dense tropical forest, well-suited for short hikes and nature observation. In the nearby city of Hinche, travelers can sample local Creole cuisine, with dishes featuring local corn and goat meat being particularly popular. The infrastructure is basic, which helps maintain the site's authentic and rugged charm. The best time to visit is shortly after the rainy season (June to November) when the waterfall is at its most powerful. Access is best from Port-au-Prince via Hinche using a 4x4 vehicle, followed by a short drive on unpaved roads to reach the park entrance.
