Best season
The best time to see American crocodiles on Isla Cabritos is during the dry season from November to April. Lake Enriquillo's water level is lower, and crocodiles bask more frequently on the shores. The rainy season (May-October) brings higher water levels.
Best time of day
Early morning is handy as crocodiles come ashore to bask. Late afternoon is also active. They spend the hot midday hours mostly in the water.
Etiquette
Keep a strict safety distance of at least 10 meters from crocodiles. Do not feed or provoke them. Stay on designated paths and follow ranger instructions.
What to bring
Binoculars are useful for observing crocodiles from a safe distance. Sun protection, hat, and plenty of water are important as it can get very hot. Sturdy shoes recommended.

Isla Cabritos is in Lake Enriquillo in southwestern Dominican Republic. Reach the island by boat tours departing from the shore. A national park permit is required.
