Neiba is the capital of the Bahoruco province in the southwest of the Dominican Republic, situated within the fertile Neiba Valley. Officially founded in 1743, the city is recognized nationwide as the center of viticulture, as the arid climate provides well-suited conditions for the cultivation of table grapes. Geographically, Neiba is located near Lake Enriquillo, the largest inland lake in the Caribbean, which lies approximately 40 meters below sea level. The region is flanked by the Sierra de Neiba and Sierra de Bahoruco mountain ranges, creating a unique ecological diversity. In addition to grapes, the area produces coffee, bananas, and various vegetables. The city serves as a regional administrative hub and as a starting point for eco-tourism excursions to the surrounding national parks and protected nature reserves.
