Viking Ship Museum
The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde is Denmark's national museum for ships, seafaring, and boatbuilding in the prehistoric and medieval periods. The heart of the museum consists of the five Skuldelev ships, original 11th-century wrecks discovered and excavated from the Roskilde Fjord in 1962. These vessels, representing different types such as warships and merchant ships, are displayed in the Viking Ship Hall, which opened in 1969 and features a glass facade with views of the fjord. A crucial part of the museum is its boatyard, where reconstructions of Viking ships are built using authentic methods and tools from the period.
