Skovbjerg (Denmark)

Weather…

The Skovbjerg Bakkeø is the largest and most prominent glacial hill island in Denmark, formed during the Saale glaciation approximately 140,000 years ago. This geological formation rises distinctly above the much younger outwash plains of the Weichsel glaciation that characterize West Jutland. The landscape of the hill island features a gently undulating surface with predominantly sandy soils and stream valleys deepened by millennia of erosion. Because the area remained ice-free during the last ice age, its surface underwent intense weathering, distinguishing it from the surrounding terrain. Today, the region is characterized by a mix of intensive agriculture, vast heathlands, and man-made coniferous plantations. Reaching a maximum elevation of about 64 meters, the plateau serves as a significant topographical feature that influences the drainage patterns of the otherwise flat Jutlandic plains.
