Uherský Brod, meaning 'Hungarian Ford', is a significant town in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic, situated in the cultural region of Moravian Slovakia. It is home to a rich history as a royal town founded in the 13th century. The town is internationally recognized as the birthplace of John Amos Comenius (Jan Amos Komenský), the 'Teacher of Nations', and a museum is dedicated to his life and work. Uherský Brod is also the headquarters of Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod (CZUB), a world-renowned firearms manufacturer. The town center preserves parts of its historic fortifications, a baroque chateau, and several beautiful churches. For visitors, it gives a blend of history, culture, and nature, with the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area nearby. Local gastronomy is typical for Moravia, with excellent wines, slivovitz (plum brandy), and hearty dishes. The best time to visit is from late spring to early autumn. The town is accessible by train and car, located between the cities of Brno and Zlín.
