Buchlovice Chateau (Czech Republic)

Weather…

Buchlovice Chateau is one of the finest examples of Italian Baroque architecture in Central Europe, located in the scenic region of Southern Moravia. Built at the start of the 18th century by Jan Dětřich of Petřvald as a gift for his Italian wife, the chateau was designed to provide the comforts of a modern villa, contrasting with the nearby medieval Buchlov Castle. The ensemble consists of two distinct palace buildings facing each other across a formal courtyard and a French garden, likely designed by the renowned architect Domenico Martinelli. The chateau played a significant role in 20th-century diplomacy as the site of the 1908 Buchlau Conference, where key decisions regarding the Balkans were negotiated. Its interiors are celebrated for their opulent stucco work and frescoes, while the surrounding 18-hectare landscape park is home to a world-class dendrological collection. Today, it remains a premier cultural site, famous for its annual fuchsia exhibitions and pristine Baroque elegance.
