Bechyně Chateau (Czech Republic)

Weather…

Bechyně Chateau, perched on a rocky promontory above the confluence of the Lužnice and Smutná rivers, is one of South Bohemia's architectural treasures. Originally founded as a Gothic castle by King Přemysl Otakar II in the 13th century, it reached its zenith during the 16th century under the House of Rosenberg. Petr Vok of Rosenberg commissioned a grand Renaissance reconstruction, resulting in magnificent spaces such as the Wedding Hall, famous for its elaborate frescoes. The architecture successfully blends medieval defensive elements with the refined elegance of Renaissance aristocratic living. The chateau later passed through the hands of the Paar and Sternberg families, who introduced Baroque modifications. Its dramatic location has expansive views of the surrounding countryside. Today, the chateau serves as a cultural hub, housing historical collections related to the Rosenbergs and significant exhibitions of ceramic art.
