The Kormakitis Peninsula marks the northwestern tip of Cyprus, extending into the Mediterranean Sea to form Cape Kormakitis. The landscape is defined by its rugged coastline, secluded sandy coves, and expansive areas of semi-arid scrub and pine forests. Geologically, the peninsula is composed of Pliocene and Pleistocene sedimentary deposits, which have been eroded and shaped by maritime winds and currents. Historically, the region is of immense significance as the ancestral home and cultural center of the Maronite community in Cyprus, with Kormakitis village being its primary hub. Given its geographic proximity to Asia Minor, it has historically served as a gateway for cultural and economic exchanges between the island and the mainland. Today, the peninsula is a protected natural site, recognized for its bird biodiversity and as a vital nesting ground for loggerhead sea turtles. Its remote location has preserved its pristine natural beauty, offering some of the most dramatic coastal scenery on the island.
