Vilanija is located just a few kilometers inland from the well-known tourist city of Umag. It is a rural oasis that allows visitors to experience the Istrian way of life firsthand. The surroundings are characterized by the famous red soil ('Terra Rossa'), on which some of the region's best wines grow, including Malvazija and Teran. The village is a handy starting point for cyclists, as it is connected to numerous cycling paths leading through northwestern Istria. In the immediate vicinity are some of the world's best olive oil producers, whose oils regularly receive international awards. Gastronomy in Vilanija and its surroundings focuses on local products: white truffles in autumn, wild asparagus in spring, and premium Boškarin beef.
