Šmrika is situated on the slopes above the Adriatic Highway, right at the junction leading to Krk Island, Crikvenica, or back to Rijeka. Due to this location, the village has evolved from a small farming community into a popular holiday destination. Residents and visitors especially appreciate the tranquility and the wide views over the sea reaching Krk and Cres islands, as well as Mount Učka on the opposite side of the gulf. The town is well-suited for travelers wanting to explore the entire Kvarner region. In just a few minutes by car, you can reach the port of Kraljevica with its historic castles of the Frankopan and Zrinski families. For swimming trips, small nearby bays like Neriz or the beaches of Krk Island, accessible directly across the bridge, are great. The climate in Šmrika is pleasant in summer, as a light breeze often blows from the mountains. In Šmrika, there are several private holiday homes and small guesthouses, often featuring terraces with sea views. Local konobas serve traditional regional dishes, including lamb and homemade pasta (šurlice). The surroundings are rocky and typical of the Croatian coastal karst, but offer interesting paths for hikers and mountain bikers who want to discover untouched nature away from the coastal road.
