Water temperature…
Hreljin is located on the slopes above the Bakar Bay, at a strategic point where the coastal region (Primorje) meets the mountainous hinterland of Gorski Kotar. The town has a long history, closely tied to the rule of the Frankopan and Zrinski noble families. The original Hreljin was situated on a rocky ridge above the current settlement, where the ruins of Stari Hreljin (Gradina) can be seen today. The Gradina ruin is a significant archaeological and historical monument. Visitors can explore the remains of the once-mighty city walls, two churches, and a defensive tower. This vantage point has a majestic view of the Bakar Bay, Krk island, and the Kvarner Gulf. During the 18th century, the inhabitants gradually relocated to the present-day Hreljin along the Karolinska road, which connected the interior with the sea. Today, Hreljin is a peaceful village, handy for hiking and cycling in nature. The surrounding area is characterized by dense forests and karst phenomena. Local cuisine reflects its position between the sea and the mountains, featuring both seafood and hearty specialties from Gorski Kotar. Hreljin is an under-the-radar destination for travelers who want to experience Croatian history in a spectacular landscape.
