💡 Tips
- Visit the world-famous Stonemasonry School (Klesarska škola) to see students crafting stone by hand.
- The town is built almost entirely from white Brač limestone; watch the facades glow during sunset.
- The deep, sheltered bay provides very calm and crystal-clear water, first-rate for swimming.
- Wear shoes with good grip, as the steep stone streets can be quite slippery when polished by centuries of use.
🍽 Food
The island's lamb is legendary; try 'Vitalac' (lamb offal wrapped in tripe and grilled).
A traditional, walnut-heavy cake named after the rugged local stones.
The island produces a very mild and fruity olive oil, best tasted with local bread and cheese.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Buy mortars, bowls, or candle holders made of authentic white Brač stone directly from local workshops.
A traditional concentrated grape juice syrup used in local cooking, available from local producers.
A short walk to the edge of the bay leads to this serene spot with great open sea views.
Located high above the town, it provides absolute silence and an impressive view over the Adriatic.

Pučišća is located in a deep bay on the northern coast of Brač island and is frequently cited as one of the most beautiful villages in Europe. The town's appearance is defined by white facades and roofs made of the famous Brač stone. For centuries, Pučišća has been the center of stonemasonry; the limestone quarried here was used to build the White House in Washington and Diocletian's Palace in Split. The heart of its cultural heritage is the Klesarska škola, Croatia's only stonemasonry school, where students still work with ancient hand tools. Visitors can tour the workshops and admire the precision of the young craftsmen. The bay of Pučišća splits into two smaller branches, Pučiški dolac and Stipanska luka, both offering crystal-clear water excellent for swimming. The town features several defensive towers (Kaštel) from the 15th and 16th centuries, built to protect against pirate and Ottoman raids. Local gastronomy is highlighted by 'Vitalac' (a traditional lamb dish) and world-class olive oil. Pučišća remains a place of tranquility and artistic inspiration, well away from the crowded tourist hubs.
