Neretva Delta (Croatia)

Weather…

The Neretva Delta in southern Croatia is a unique alluvial plain often referred to as the 'Croatian California' due to its agricultural productivity. Here, the Neretva River branches into numerous streams, creating a 12,000-hectare labyrinth of channels, marshes, and fertile fields. Originally a vast swamp, the delta was transformed through extensive drainage projects into a vital agricultural hub, now famous for its vast mandarin and citrus groves. It is also one of Europe's most important stopover sites for migratory birds, with over 300 species recorded in the area. The traditional way of life is deeply connected to wooden boats called 'ladja,' which residents still use to navigate the narrow waterways. The delta meets the Adriatic Sea with wide sandy beaches that have become a premier destination for kitesurfers.
