Marčana is located in the southeastern part of Istria, away from the major tourist crowds, and has preserved its rustic charm. The region has been known since ancient times for its high-quality white limestone, extracted from local quarries (Kava). Many buildings in Venice and Pula were constructed using this stone. The village itself is surrounded by fertile farmland, olive groves, and dense forests, making it a convenient destination for agrotourism. In Marčana, visitors find historical sights such as the Church of St. Anthony of Padua with its prominent bell tower. Especially worth visiting is the nearby medieval village of Mutvoran, perched on a hill and surrounded by well-preserved town walls. Here, time seems to have stood still. Although Marčana is not directly on the coast, the secluded bays of Istria's east coast, like Krnica or Duga Uvala, are just a short drive away. The region gives excellent opportunities for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding. Local taverns serve traditional Istrian specialties such as fuži pasta with truffles or sheep cheese, often accompanied by a glass of Malvazija wine.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun, Jul, Sep.

A rainy morning in Marčana is best started with an extended coffee in the dry center. The historic churches then provide ideal, rain-protected sanctuaries for those interested in culture. At noon, the path leads to Mutvoran, where a cozy konoba awaits with warming Istrian specialties. The rain gives the old fortress a mystical atmosphere. In the afternoon, we explore the architecture under the protection of an umbrella, while the stone facades shine in the wet light. A short visit to Mary Magdalene rounds off the cultural program. The hike to Mutvoran is pleasant in the mild Istrian winter temperatures. The distant view over the bare but structured landscape is particularly far at this time of year. At noon, we enjoy Istria's hearty winter cuisine, such as Jota or homemade fuži, served by the fireplace in the konoba. Since the sun sets early, we use the golden afternoon light for the last stops before concluding the day comfortably with a glass of Teran wine.

Before darkness falls, we visit the last viewpoints. The dusk in the hills offers a wonderful play of colors over the Adriatic on the horizon.
