Kukuljanovo is located on a plateau above the Bay of Bakar in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. Part of the city of Bakar, the settlement has undergone significant changes in recent decades. While the old village core has preserved its rural character with stone houses and the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, the surroundings are now known as the region's most important industrial zone. This zone has turned Kukuljanovo into a major logistical hub in Croatia. Historically, the village was closely tied to the town of Bakar and maritime trade. Residents were traditionally involved in farming and seafaring. A unique cultural feature is the local carnival tradition (Mesopust), which is maintained with great passion. The 'Kukuljanski zvončari' (bell ringers) are a well-known group that drives away evil spirits and announces spring during carnival season. The geographic location gives quick access to both the coast (Rijeka, Bakar) and the mountains of Gorski Kotar. Nearby lies the Grobnik field, famous for the Automotodrom Grobnik racetrack. For hikers, the hinterland has numerous paths with views of the Kvarner Gulf. Despite the industrial development nearby, the old part of Kukuljanovo still features quiet spots and local taverns serving traditional dishes of the Kvarner region.
