Greeting to the Sun (Croatia)

Weather…

The Greeting to the Sun is a circular light installation with a diameter of 22 meters, set flush with the stone quay at the tip of the Zadar peninsula. The circle is made up of 300 multi-layer glass plates, beneath which photovoltaic cells gather solar energy throughout the day. After dusk, the stored energy triggers a programmed, colourful light show that pulses in time with the rhythm of the immediately adjacent Sea Organ. The work was designed by architect Nikola Bašić, the same creator as the Sea Organ, and was unveiled in 2008. The installation also generates electricity that powers the entire harbour-front lighting. It is one of the most photographed spots in Zadar and is best experienced at sunset, which Alfred Hitchcock is said to have called the most beautiful in the world.
