Gornji Brgat is located on a ridge northeast of Dubrovnik, along the important historical road connecting the coast with the hinterland of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Due to its elevated position, the village has wide-open panoramic views of the sea and the settlements of Župa Dubrovačka. Historically, Brgat was a key defensive point of the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik), with remains of the old fortress and strategic walls still visible today. The village center is dominated by the Church of St. Anne (Sveta Ana), a site of local pilgrimages and religious traditions. Gornji Brgat has preserved its rural character despite being just a short drive from the bustling city center of Dubrovnik. For visitors, the location provides a cool breeze during hot summer months and a peaceful base for exploring the southernmost region of Croatia. Hiking trails lead from here towards the summit of Mount Srđ, providing alternative perspectives on the area. Access is straightforward via the main road towards the Ivanica border crossing.
