Due to its elevated position, the village has wide-open panoramic views of the sea and the settlements of Župa Dubrovačka. Historically, Brgat was a key defensive point of the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik), with remains of the old fortress and strategic walls still visible today. The village center is dominated by the Church of St. Anne (Sveta Ana), a site of local pilgrimages and religious traditions. Gornji Brgat has preserved its rural character despite being just a short drive from the bustling city center of Dubrovnik. For visitors, the location provides a cool breeze during hot summer months and a peaceful base for exploring the southernmost region of Croatia.
