Diocletian's Palace (Croatia)

Weather…

Diocletian's Palace in Split is one of the world's best-preserved monuments of Roman architecture and forms the living heart of the modern city. The massive complex was constructed between 295 and 305 AD as a retirement residence for the Roman Emperor Diocletian. The palace combines the architecture of a luxurious villa with the layout of a fortified Roman military camp (castrum). Following the fall of the Roman Empire, the site remained inhabited and evolved over centuries into a city where ancient walls blend seamlessly with medieval and later buildings. Particularly striking features include the Peristyle square, the subterranean substructures, and the Mausoleum, which was later converted into the Cathedral of Saint Domnius. Since 1979, the entire complex has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. It functions not as a static museum but as a bustling urban district with shops, restaurants, and residences.
