Beli (Croatia)

Weather…

Beli is one of the oldest settlements on the island of Cres, situated on a 130-meter-high hill in the rugged northern region known as Tramuntana. The village is most famous for the Griffon Vulture Visitor Centre, dedicated to protecting one of the last remaining populations of these magnificent birds, which nest on the nearby sea cliffs. The village’s history dates back to Roman times, with a remarkably well-preserved Roman bridge still standing in the valley below. Surrounding the village are seven eco-trails that wind through ancient oak and chestnut forests, featuring stone sculptures and mystical labyrinths that reflect the island's folklore. A beautiful pebble beach lies at the foot of the hill, reachable by a steep road, offering crystal-clear water and a zip-line for thrill-seekers. The small harbor below provides a campsite and a few local eateries, making it a popular spot for nature lovers and hikers. Local cuisine is simple and authentic, featuring island honey and wild herbs. Beli is best visited in late spring or early autumn, excellent for exploring the forest trails and spotting the vultures as they soar above the coastline. Its remote location ensures a peaceful atmosphere far from the busier parts of the island.
