Maloudja Beach holds a notable place in Comorian history as a site where early French colonial expeditions made landfall in the 1840s. The beach was used as a temporary base for mapping the coastline of Grande Comore. Later, it became a small trading post for copra and vanilla. The name 'Maloudja' is believed to derive from an Arabic phrase meaning 'the blessed,' reflecting the influence of Islamic traders. During World War II, the beach was briefly used as a lookout point by Vichy French forces. Modern development has been minimal, preserving its historical character. Local elders recount stories of shipwrecks off the coast, with some artifacts still occasionally unearthed. In 2018, a small museum was established in the nearby village to display these historical finds. The beach today serves as a peaceful retreat for those interested in the quieter side of Comorian life.
