Yumbo is widely known as the 'Industrial Capital of Colombia,' located in the northern part of the Cali metropolitan area within the Valle del Cauca Department. Founded in 1536, the town has transformed from a small indigenous settlement into one of the country's most economically powerful hubs. More than 2,000 companies, including multinationals in cement, paper, food, and chemicals, are headquartered here, taking advantage of the flat terrain and excellent transport links. Despite its industrial dominance, Yumbo preserves a historical core and cultural traditions such as the annual Kite Festival. In the mountainous outskirts lies the village of Mulaló, known as the 'White Village,' which houses a museum dedicated to Simón Bolívar. Yumbo faces the challenge of balancing industrial growth with environmental sustainability but remains an indispensable engine for prosperity in southwestern Colombia and a prime example of regional industrial transformation.
