Casa de Nariño (Colombia)

Weather…

The Casa de Nariño is the official residence and primary workplace of the President of Colombia, situated in the historic heart of Bogotá. The palace stands on the site of the birthplace of Antonio Nariño, a seminal figure in the fight for independence and the first to translate the Declaration of the Rights of Man into Spanish. The current neoclassical building was designed in the early 20th century and inaugurated in 1908 during the administration of Rafael Reyes. Its facade is crafted from quarry stone, while the interior features grand salons decorated with historical furniture and works by prominent Colombian artists. Within the palace grounds sits the National Astronomical Observatory, the oldest in the Americas, founded in 1803. The palace serves as a powerful symbol of the Colombian state and is guarded by the Battalion of the Presidential Guard. Visitors are often drawn to the ceremonial changing of the guard, a disciplined military display. Located adjacent to the National Capitol and the Palace of Justice, it remains the epicenter of the country's executive governance.
