Zhanjiang Port (China)

Weather…

Zhanjiang Port, located on the northeast coast of the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong Province, is a strategically important deep-water port and serves as the primary gateway for Southwest China's trade with the rest of the world. It was conceived as early as the 1950s as China's first modern port after the founding of the People's Republic and has continuously expanded since then. Geographically, Zhanjiang Bay has a natural deep-water basin that provides protection from typhoons and allows access for large oil tankers and bulk carriers. The port is a significant hub for the import of raw materials such as iron ore and crude oil, as well as for the export of agricultural products and industrial goods from Yunnan, Guizhou, and Sichuan provinces. Zhanjiang is also a major base for the Chinese Navy, underscoring the strategic importance of the location in the South China Sea. In recent years, massive investments have been made in expanding terminals and improving hinterland connectivity through new railway lines. Integration into the Belt and Road Initiative has further strengthened the port's role in international maritime traffic. Besides industrial activities, the region is famous for shrimp farming and fishing, making Zhanjiang a versatile economic center.
