Constitución
Constitución is positioned at the mouth of the Maule River, roughly 110 kilometers from the regional capital of Talca. The coastal city serves as a major hub for the local forestry and cellulose industry. It remains accessible via the historic Ramal Talca-Constitución, the last operating narrow-gauge passenger railway in Chile. The local beaches consist entirely of dark volcanic sand stretching along the Pacific coast. Prominent monolithic rock formations, such as the massive Piedra de la Iglesia, emerge from the ocean just off the shoreline and serve as the main landmarks. Local restaurants along the riverfront and beaches serve traditional Chilean seafood dishes, including freshly caught fish and shellfish. The summer months from January to March provide the most stable weather for coastal walks and railway excursions.
