Koh Tonsay, commonly referred to as Rabbit Island, lies about 4.5 kilometers south of the coastal town of Kep in the Gulf of Thailand. The island spans just two square kilometers and is characterized by a strip of golden sand along its main beach. The water here is exceptionally shallow and warm, making it excellent for long, relaxing swims. Around the island, there are a few simple snorkeling spots featuring small coral blocks. The island is completely devoid of cars or motorbikes, and electricity is only available for a few hours in the evening via generators. Accommodation is limited to very basic bamboo bungalows built directly on the beach, managed by local fishing families. These same families run small open-air seafood restaurants serving freshly caught fish, crab, and traditional Cambodian curries. The boat ride from the Kep pier takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes in colorful traditional wooden longtails. Many travelers visit Koh Tonsay as a day trip to lounge in hammocks or enjoy beachside massages, but staying overnight has a true 'off-the-grid' experience. A narrow jungle path allows more active visitors to hike completely around the island.
