Hà Tiên is a pretty coastal city in Kiên Giang Province, located along the Gulf of Thailand right at the Cambodian border. The city was founded in the late 17th century by Mạc Cửu, a Chinese immigrant, under whose leadership it flourished into a major trading port and cultural center. Its geography is uniquely diverse, featuring a blend of limestone mountains, mysterious caves, lagoons, and sandy beaches such as the popular Mũi Nai beach. A significant historical landmark is the Mạc Family Tombs, situated on a hill and dedicated to the city's founding dynasty. Hà Tiên is also famous for its spiritual sites like the Phù Dung Pagoda and the striking Thạch Động Cave, which is house inside a massive limestone monolith. Economically, the city thrives on cross-border trade, fishing, and tourism, with seafood being a celebrated local specialty.
