Shipka (Bulgaria)

Weather…

Shipka is a site of profound national significance for Bulgaria, located on the southern slopes of the Balkan Mountains. Its most striking landmark is the Shipka Memorial Church, with its brilliant golden domes and pink facade, built in the Russian-Byzantine style to commemorate the soldiers who fell during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. The church tower reaches 53 meters and houses 17 bells, the heaviest weighing nearly 12 tons. A few kilometers from the town, the winding road leads up to the Shipka Pass, where the monumental Liberty Memorial stands on Stoletov Peak. This spot features a sweeping panoramic view over the Rose Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges. History buffs will appreciate the proximity to numerous Thracian burial mounds, as Shipka lies at the edge of the Valley of the Thracian Kings. The area is also a great starting point for hikers looking to explore the pristine nature of the Central Balkan National Park.
