Ouro Branco Steelworks (Brazil)

Weather…

The Ouro Branco Steelworks, operated by Gerdau Açominas, is a significant industrial complex in the state of Minas Gerais, renowned for the production of high-quality steel shapes and rails. The history of the plant began in the 1970s as a state project to strengthen Brazilian heavy industry, with production officially commencing in 1986. Located within the 'Iron Quadrangle' (Quadrilátero Ferrífero), the plant benefits from its immediate proximity to the country's richest iron ore deposits. Following its privatization in 1993 and subsequent acquisition by the Gerdau Group, the facility underwent extensive modernization and expansion. Today, the plant features one of the most modern rail rolling mills in the Americas, manufacturing rails for the entire Brazilian railway network and for export. The facility includes several blast furnaces and converters that enable highly efficient integrated production. Ouro Branco is not only an economic engine for the region but also a key player in providing structural steel for major infrastructure projects worldwide.
