Arraial d'Ajuda
Located just a short ferry ride across the Buranhém River from Porto Seguro, Arraial d'Ajuda feels like an entirely different world. The town is smaller, infinitely more welcoming, and notably cosmopolitan. Its cobbled main street, the Rua do Mucugê, proudly calls itself the 'most characterful street in Brazil' and is lined with chic boutiques, art galleries, and a huge selection of international and regional restaurants positioned under the branches of large trees. The beaches of Arraial d'Ajuda are characterized by warm waters and gentle waves, as they are largely protected by offshore reef systems. Praia do Mucugê is the most accessible beach from the town center, making it handy for families. Heading further south reveals Praia do Parracho, a hub for water sports and younger crowds, followed by the remarkable Praia de Pitinga, backed by dramatic colorful cliffs. During low tide, wonderful natural pools form in the reef here, providing excellent snorkeling opportunities. Beyond the natural beaches, the Eco Parque Arraial d'Ajuda, a large oceanfront water park, has family entertainment. When evening falls, visitors gather around the square known as Bróduei to enjoy drinks and live music. While the village is an attractive destination year-round, visiting between September and November is highly recommended to enjoy excellent weather while escaping the massive crowds of the Brazilian summer season.
