Chapare Banana Plantations (Bolivia)

Weather…

The Chapare region in the Cochabamba Department is Bolivia's most important area for growing export bananas. The tropical climate, with very high annual rainfall of up to 5,000 mm, provides well-suited conditions for the rapid growth of banana plants. In recent decades, banana cultivation has developed into a successful alternative to coca cultivation, supported by national and international development programs. Today, hundreds of thousands of tons of bananas, primarily of the Cavendish variety, are produced annually and mostly exported to the Argentine market. Agriculture is characterized by specialized family farms organized into associations to ensure logistics and quality control for export. Besides bananas, the region is also known for growing pineapples, citrus fruits, and hearts of palm, making Chapare one of the country's most productive agricultural zones.
