North Sea Port Ghent
North Sea Port is a cross-border European port created by the merger of the ports of Ghent (Belgium) and Terneuzen and Vlissingen (Netherlands) in 2018. The Ghent section of the port is located about 32 kilometers inland and is connected to the North Sea via the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal. Economically, the port is a major center for the steel industry, the automotive sector, and bio-energy production. Companies such as ArcelorMittal and Volvo Cars use the efficient logistics infrastructure for importing raw materials and exporting finished products. As the tenth largest port in Europe, North Sea Port plays a key role in the trans-European transport network. A special focus is placed on sustainability, particularly through the promotion of the circular economy and the reduction of CO2 emissions in the industrial zone. The multimodal connection to rail, road, and inland waterways makes the port a strategic partner for companies across Western Europe.
