Castle of Moerkerke
The Castle of Moerkerke, located in the easy on the eye municipality of Damme in West Flanders, is home to a long history dating back to the 11th century. Originally built as a medieval moated castle, it served for centuries as the seat of the Lords of Moerkerke. Over time, the complex was destroyed and rebuilt several times, particularly during the religious upheavals of the 16th century. Its current appearance is largely the result of 19th-century renovations that blended Neoclassical and Neo-Gothic elements. The castle is surrounded by a wide moat and an extensive park, emanating the typical charm of Flemish noble estates. Today, the historic building is utilized for various events and banquets, while remaining a significant landmark in the Damme region.
