Bree, located in the northeast of the Limburg province, was one of the 'Good Cities' of the former Prince-Bishopric of Liège. The town impresses with its well-preserved historical center, where the Gothic St. Michael's Church stands as a proud landmark. Cozy squares and tree-lined streets invite relaxed strolls, while the town hall, a former Augustinian monastery, reflects the region's rich monastic history. Bree also gained international fame through top sporting achievements, particularly as the home of tennis legend Kim Clijsters. The town's surroundings are a paradise for cyclists and hikers, embedded in the flat, green landscapes of Flanders. Numerous well-marked cycling paths lead through nearby nature reserves, offering handy conditions for active travelers. Culinary-wise, Bree has typical Limburg hospitality with delicious regional beers and the famous Limburg fruit tart (vlaai). The best time to visit is from May to September, when the weather is convenient for outdoor activities. Bree is easily accessible by car or via regional bus connections from Hasselt or Genk, offering an excellent blend of culture, sport, and nature.
