Estancia Harberton, on the Beagle Channel in Tierra del Fuego, is the oldest estancia in the province and a National Historical Monument. It was founded in 1886 by the Anglican missionary Thomas Bridges and is still run by his descendants. The estancia provides a fascinating insight into the history of the pioneers in Tierra del Fuego, with its original buildings, a family museum, and a beautiful historic garden. From the estancia, visitors can take boat trips to Martillo Island, which is home to a large colony of Magellanic and gentoo penguins. The estancia is also an important center for scientific research on marine fauna, with the Acatushun Museum of Southern Birds and Mammals. It is a place where history, nature, and science come together at one of the southernmost points in the world.
