Chréa

Located at an altitude of over 1,400 meters in the Atlas Mountains, Chréa is situated in one of the most accessible national parks in Algeria. Its proximity to the capital, Algiers, which is only about 50 kilometers away, makes it a highly popular destination for day-trippers. The rich flora and fauna, coupled with the clear mountain air, attract nature lovers from all over the country. The resort lies right in the middle of the Chréa National Park, an important biosphere reserve. The dense forests are predominantly made up of Atlas cedars and serve as a vital habitat for the endangered Barbary macaque. In winter, Chréa operates as one of the few ski resorts in Africa, even if the slopes are relatively small. During the summer, the shaded forests offer great conditions for hiking, picnics, and mountain biking away from the urban heat. Small local restaurants cater to visitors by serving warming soups and traditional grilled dishes. The resort can be reached from the city of Blida via a winding, scenic mountain road. Alternatively, there is a cable car that directly connects Blida to Chréa, offering dramatic aerial views during the ride. The best time to visit depends on your interests: winter for snow, or spring and summer for hiking in the lush greenery.
