Taza National Park in northeastern Algeria, near the coastal city of Jijel, is a protected area of exceptional ecological significance and has been recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. Spanning approximately 3,807 hectares, the park encompasses dense forests of cork oak and zean oak, as well as steep cliffs and fine sandy beaches along the Mediterranean coast. One of the park's most famous inhabitants is the Barbary macaque (Macaca sylvanus), which lives here in the wild and is an endangered species. Geographically, the park is shaped by the mountain massif of the Lesser Atlas, resulting in high vertical biodiversity. In addition to its fauna, Taza is home to rare bird species such as the Algerian nuthatch, which is found worldwide only in this region. The combination of marine and terrestrial ecosystems makes the park a paradise for naturalists and hikers alike. Protecting this delicate area is crucial for preserving the endemic species of North Africa. Historically, the Jijel region was an important base for various civilizations, adding a cultural dimension to the park.
