Gouraya National Park (Algeria)

Weather…

Gouraya National Park is situated on the Mediterranean coast in Béjaïa Province and is one of Algeria's smallest but biologically most valuable national parks. The park spans an area of approximately 2,080 hectares and includes Mount Gouraya, which reaches a height of 660 meters. The landscape is characterized by steep limestone cliffs that drop directly into the azure sea, as well as Mediterranean macchia and pine forests. Gouraya was declared a national park in 1984 and has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2004. One of its most famous attractions is Cap Carbon with its distinctive lighthouse, offering panoramic views over the Gulf of Béjaïa. In terms of fauna, the park is a vital habitat for the Barbary macaque as well as various birds of prey and seabirds. Archaeological finds within the park prove habitation by Phoenicians and Romans, highlighting the region's historical significance. For the local population, the park serves as a recreational area and a symbol of regional identity.
