Xarrë is a significant village in the Vlorë County of extreme southern Albania, located near the Greek border and the ancient site of Butrint. Part of the Konispol municipality, it lies in a fertile coastal plain irrigated by the Pavllo River. Xarrë is internationally recognized for its archaeological importance, specifically the Xarrë Cave, which contains evidence of human habitation dating back to the Paleolithic era (c. 40,000 BC). These finds are among the oldest evidence of human life in the Balkan Peninsula. In the modern economy, Xarrë serves as Albania's premier center for citrus cultivation, particularly tangerines, which are a major national export. The geographic location between Lake Butrint and the Ionian Sea creates a mild microclimate that is exceptionally conducive to agriculture. The village is home to a culturally diverse population, adding to the local heritage of the border region. For travelers, Xarrë provides a unique combination of prehistoric history and thriving modern agro-industry, set against a backdrop of vast orchards.
