Minarets of Ghazni (Afghanistan)

Weather…

The Minarets of Ghazni are two impressive but fragile 12th-century towers that serve as proud remnants of the once-magnificent capital of the Ghaznavid Empire. Originally, they likely flanked a mosque that has long since disappeared. The towers, built by Sultan Mas'ud III and Bahram Shah, are known for their unique star-shaped base and intricate terracotta and stucco decorations. The ornate geometric patterns and Kufic inscriptions are masterpieces of Islamic architectural art from this era. They once stood over 40 meters tall and had cylindrical upper sections, which, however, have been lost over time due to earthquakes and decay. Today, the minarets are about 20 meters high and stand as solitary sentinels on the plain outside the modern city of Ghazni, a poignant reminder of the artistic and architectural heyday of the Ghaznavid Empire.
